First hour checklist

Your first hour in The Adventurer's Trial sets the pace for everything after it. The game drops you into a boundless pixel-art sandbox with no quest marker, so it helps to have a plan before you start running.

  • Learn the controls in a safe spot: Test basic movement, attacks, and your top-down camera view before heading into unknown territory.

  • Gather your first resources: Punch or mine nearby trees, stone, and plants. You need raw materials for almost every starter recipe.

  • Craft basic tools: Prioritize a pickaxe, an axe, and a simple weapon. These three items speed up every other task in the first hour.

  • Claim a small base area: Pick a flat spot near water and basic resources. You do not need a big build yet, just a safe place to store loot.

  • Check your inventory limits: Early inventory space is tight. Drop or store anything you do not need immediately.

Keep your first base within 30 seconds of the spawn area if you can. You will make several trips back and forth while learning the map, and a short run saves real time.

Core gameplay loops

Everything in The Adventurer's Trial circles back to a simple loop:explore, gather, build, and fight. You explore the sandbox to find new materials, use those materials to build tools and structures, then take on tougher challenges with the gear you made. Farming is another steady source of food and crafting ingredients, so it is worth starting a small plot early even if you focus on combat.

The loop gets more interesting as you push outward because epic boss encounters are the main end-of-loop reward. You will want better weapons, armor, and healing items before each boss attempt, which sends you right back into gathering and crafting.

  • Explore to unlock new biomes and find rare resources.

  • Mine and farm to keep your material stockpile healthy.

  • Build to improve your base, storage, and crafting stations.

  • Challenge bosses only after your gear and supplies are ready.

Early mistakes to avoid

New players tend to make the same handful of mistakes, and most of them are easy to avoid once you know what to watch for.

  • Wandering too far without supplies: The world is large and there is no fast travel at the start. Bring food, torches, and spare tools on any long trip.

  • Ignoring storage: Hoarding everything in your personal inventory slows you down and makes deaths more punishing. Build chests at your base early.

  • Skipping basic armor: Armor is not optional before boss fights. Even low-tier armor noticeably reduces damage from regular enemies.

  • Rushing boss fights: Bosses in Early Access hit hard and can end runs quickly. If a boss defeats you, treat it as a gear check, not a skill failure.

  • Playing solo when co-op is available: The game supports up to 3 friends in co-op, and a second player saves hours of grind on your first playthrough.

The biggest mindset shift is accepting that dying is part of the loop. The goal is not to avoid every fight, but to know which fights you can win with your current gear.

Co-op tips for new players

You can play solo, but multi-player is one of the best ways to learn the game. The title includes co-op and LAN co-op, plus Family Sharing support, so there are several ways to play with people you know.

  • Split roles early: Have one player focus on gathering while another handles base building and farming. This covers more ground in the first hour.

  • Share materials at the base: Keep a communal storage chest so everyone can pull what they need instead of begging for individual items.

  • Do not all fight the same enemy stack: In top-down co-op, surrounding enemies is common. Spread out and let the tankier player lead boss fights.

  • Revive and return: When a teammate falls, recovering their dropped items becomes the priority. Mark the spot on your map if your game supports map pings.

If you are playing on LAN co-op, have the host do the first area clear solo once so new teammates can log in at a safe checkpoint instead of spawning into a fight.

What to do next

Once your first base is stable and you have basic tools, your next goals should be expansion and boss prep. Pick one direction from your base and explore it fully before moving to the next area.

  1. Upgrade your crafting stations: Better stations unlock better weapons, armor, and utility items.

  2. Grow your farm: A steady food supply means fewer trips back to base and more time exploring.

  3. Scout one boss location: Learn the path, the surrounding enemies, and any environmental hazards before you fight.

  4. Set a gear goal: Decide on one armor set or weapon tier to craft before your next boss attempt.

After that, the game opens up into the full sandbox:build a larger base, mine deeper for rare ores, farm enough food for long expeditions, and challenge the epic bosses the world throws at you. The game is coming soon with a TBA price, so treat these early hours as practice for the full release. Learn the loops now, and you will be ready when the Trial really begins.
